Choosing a venue type

Public space, private venue, or private residence — and which one needs ID verification.

  • •Public space — a park, court, trail, library, or coffee shop. Open to anyone.
  • •Private venue — a rented facility, club, gym, or studio.
  • •Private residence — your home or someone else's.

Hosting at a private residence

For an Open or Request to Join event, this one requires identity verification, because people you have not chosen are being invited into a home. If you are not verified yet, your event is saved as a draft rather than published. It publishes on its own as soon as you are verified — you do not need to create it again. If you are already verified, it publishes straight away.

A Private event does not need it. Everyone coming is somebody you invited, so it publishes straight away wherever it is held.

The same applies if you later edit a Private event at a residence to make it Open or Request to Join: the change is not saved until you are verified, and the event carries on as it was.

See Verifying your identity for what that involves.

A draft does not appear in search or on anyone's home page. You can find yours under My Events, marked Draft; the event page has a button to start verification.
